Philly

I'm a little over a month behind on many things...

We went to Philly in June and who knew there was such good VEGAN food there?

This was dinner one night.  OMG, so good.  I would go back in a heartbeat to eat there again.  They had a super fun "cheese" board as a starter, awesome pizza, good burgers (the buns weren't my favorite, but that is my only mild complaint).  Amazing desserts--brownies, tiramisu, ice cream sandwiches on delicious cookies.

And then there was

Fast food vegan, with all compostable wrappers/plastic ware.  So tasty -- we ate there twice.  They had fun milkshakes!  I loved the Philly "cheesesteak" wrap and the curry wrap ... I had a bite of the Bistro Bell....YUM!  I could have eaten there a few more times, but we were only there for 3 days.

I am hopeful that when I go to DC for work I'll get to go to the Hip City Veg there.

We also had dinner at my nephew's house and he made is what I am now calling "the Philly burrito."  I'll share what I've done with it since I've come home.

I didn't get pictures of food 'cause I was too busy shoving the food in my face... Here's a picture of the girls with their cousin at the Ben Franklin Science Museum.  We enjoyed Philly!

Pizza with arugula

We went out to lunch in the city and Natalie (the vegan-kid who loves veggies) and I split this pizza.  I ate the side with the argula, plus the other veggies. She ate the zucchini and pepper side. We got this at a regular restaurant; they used their no-dairy crust and made our pizza no-cheese. Yum! (I like it when we can go to regular restaurants and get yummy food! Most restaurants, in our neck of the woods, will accommodate vegan needs.)

July...

It's July.  June went whooshing by and now it's July.  I traveled for work in June.  If you find yourself on the east coast, I highly recommend this place, Sweet Green. It's not vegan, but it has vegan options and good, organic, locally grown, sustainable food.

In other news, we're getting ready to move to our new house. I am most excited about the pantry in our new house. It's about a lot bigger than my current pantry.  The current one is about 3 feet wide by 8 foot tall and the new one is a walk-in pantry! Here's a picture of the current one. It needs a good organizing, but since I'm getting ready to start packing and sorting everything I probably won't organize it. I've loved our current kitchen, but I'm excited for the new one, too.  We'll see how much blogging will get done in the next month.

Lunch

We went to a VERY yummy vegan restaurant.   This was raw kale, spirulized celery root, and lots of other yummy veggies as a salad.  It had an almond cream dressing on it.  Super yum.

Lunch with my girls

Today, we were spontaneous!  We went out to lunch without planning on it.  We drove past a strip mall and saw a Chipolte and decided we should go.

Chipolte is a fairly friendly vegan restaurant.  Their black beans are not made with any animal products.  (Their website gives lots of information about their food.) The girls had rice and black beans (one had brown rice and one had white) (the third girl was at a playdate so she had none).  I had a salad bowl with black beans, romaine lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole.  The girls and I also had a few tortilla chips--we split one bag.  We were very full at the end of our lunch.

We ate alfresco; I should have taken a picture, but alas, I was caught up in the moment of enjoying the girls and the nice, cool summer day. Ah, summer, I love you.  I don't want you to end.
